Aurora was established in 2022 following the purchase and relaunch of another P&I provider that had been underwriting since 2013. Providing fixed P&I premium for owners and operators of small ships Aurora has a team of experienced underwriters and claims personnel offering advice, support and assistance to insureds and their brokers. Our portfolio spans Australasia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas and comprises a wide variety of tonnage including tugs, barges, passenger vessels, yachts, inland ships, fishing vessels, workboats and cargo vessels.
We can provide cover for vessels that trade internationally, domestically or on inland waterways. Aurora P&I’s policies provide cover up to US$500 million of cover. Defence cover is also available together with all the ancillary covers required by owners operating in this specialist market. We are part of the MECO Group and we have a dedicated claims team for Aurora P&I as well as access to correspondents and the wider resource of MECO’s personnel across three offices.

Owners P&I Cover
Aurora provides Owners P&I cover, which is a comprehensive insurance policy covering certain third-party liabilities of owners and operators in the small ships’ market. P&I insurance covers owners against third-party claims in relation to people on board the ship, loss or damage to the environment, third-party property and for the care and carriage of cargo including General Average. In an increasingly hostile and costly claims environment, secure coverage with professionals is essential for the modern shipowner.
